Kenwood Hearing Center's Staff of Audiologists

Joyce Kinker-Johnson, M.A., CCC-A - Has been helping people hear for over 36 years. She is often heard to say that she began her career at age 12. Actually she became interested in the hearing impaired as a young teen when she babysat for a deaf child and helped with his speech therapy. After graduating from Bowling Green State University with a Master of Arts Degree in Audiology, she worked in the medical offices of Dr. Blanchard, Devany, Parker and Willis as their director of Audiology for 20 years. Joyce was one of the first audiologists in the country to dispense hearing aids and has fit thousands of people with amplification over the past 36 years.

She continues to love the field of Audiology. "I have been part of the amazing transformations in hearing health care. It has been fascinating to be able to be part of the digital technology revolution that continues to provide people with hearing loss, better and better hearing aids. When I first started in this field, hearing aids were really just boom boxes, there was little you could do to custom fit them to an individual's hearing loss. Today, with the advanced technologies available, there is virtually no hearing loss that cannot be helped," reports Mrs. Johnson.

Diann M. Harrison, M.A., CCC-A - Is one of the co-founders of Kenwood Hearing Center. She and Joyce Kinker-Johnson founded Kenwood Hearing Center in 1993 after working for Drs. Blanchard, Devany, Parker and Willis for eight years. Having graduated from Bowling Green State University, she worked as an audiologist for over 24 years.

"Audiology is the perfect career for me. I am able to use my medical and science backgrounds to help individuals of all ages with their communication needs. I also have the opportunity to get to know not only the patient, but their families and help them find solutions and strategies to help improve communication. There is nothing more rewarding to me than knowing that I have helped to improve a person's quality of life by finding a hearing solution for them."

When Diann is not working, she is busy with her husband and two teenaged daughters. They live on a small farm with horses, chickens and goats. Summers are busy with gardening and traveling to horse shows and cheering on the girls. Diann also is an avid cook and knitter, making gifts for her friends and family and chanty knitting.

"For me, being happy and fulfilled in life is finding a balance between a rewarding career that I enjoy, and a busy home life filled with family, friends and hobbies. I think I have found that balance!"

Jane F. Rowen, M.A., CCC-A - Has been working as an audiologist for 37 years. She graduated with honors from the University of Cincinnati with a Master of Science degree in Audiology. Jane worked for the Toledo Otolaryngology Group for over 25 years before joining Joyce Kinker- Johnson and Diann Harrison at Kenwood Hearing Center 11 years ago.

Jane's years in audiology have allowed her to follow infants and babies with hearing loss into adulthood, sharing their successes as they function in a hearing world. She has enjoyed the many friendships she has developed with her adult clients. Jane especially enjoys making a difference in people's lives. "Improving a person's hearing so he can participate in a grandchild's wedding or helping someone hear better so they can take part in everyday living is what it is all about," says Jane.

"Whether working with adults or children, the new hearing aid technology has been truly amazing. I feel privileged to have been a part of the technology revolution that has allowed me to better meet the needs of my patients."

Sarah M. DeLauter, Au.D., CCC-A - Sarah joined Kenwood Hearing Center in 2006 after working for a local ENT group for 4 years. She received her Bachelor of Education Degree from The University of Toledo in 2000, and her Master of Arts degree in Audiology from The University of Akron in 2002. In 2008, she received a Doctorate of Audiology (Au.D.) from Salus University (The Pennsylvania College of Optometry).

"I have an aunt who is a Speech Pathologist and she sort of led me to where I am today, and I'm very grateful to her for that. I love the field I chose because of the people I get to work with. Seeing different patients, each presenting with their own unique challenges to address is what is exciting. There's nothing better than getting to know so many different people, hearing their stories, meeting their families and finding the most appropriate solutions for their hearing difficulties."

Sarah is licensed by the Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association.

Alison Friend, Au.D. - The newest addition to the Kenwood Hearing Center family. She attended the University of Connecticut for her Doctor of Audiology degree, joined us for her final externship year and decided to stay on board. She was born and raised in Florida and graduated from Florida State University in 2006 with her Bachelor of Science degree.

"I love the field of Audiology. I have the privilege of working with a variety of individuals daily to meet their hearing healthcare needs. I find it very rewarding to meet the challenges of helping my patients have the best experience possible. I am so happy to have found a home at Kenwood. I look at the Audiologists I work with and I am inspired every day by the depth of their care and concern for not just their patients, but also the families that support them. We help people better their lives through better hearing."
